Spencer's Take 2, Semana 6

Monday, June 16, 2014

Hey family and friends! This week has been a really weird one! A couple of things that were just weird are that I feel like I hardly taught any lessons and I was barely ever with my companion because we were on divisions all week. When he finally got back he felt like a stranger to me! With those things being said, although it was a weird week...... WE HAD A BAPTISM!!!!!

I don't know how in the past weeks I have failed to update you on the progress of this amazing daughter of God! Her name is Gabi Delgado. She is the daughter/sister in a huge family of which we are going to baptize two more of her siblings this week! She has quite the past full of abuse and lack of love which has made her a little bit different from all the people I have met in my life. What I love and have learned from her is a lesson in humility and innocence. Throughout our whole teaching experience with her she showed such a love and desire to change and an excitement to do so. I know that she is going to be such an example and inspiration to many due to her innocent love she has for the Savior.

In other news, the World Cup started this week and that is an obvious contributor to the slow speed of the work this week! The first kick off game was on Thursday between Brazil and Croatia. The streets were so empty that our area seemed to be a ghost town! Last night (Sunday night) was even worse! The first game between Argentina started at 7 o clock. In anticipation of the massive wave of rejection we were destined to receive, we cleverly planned our studies later during the game. Argentina won 2-1 against Bosnia and they scored their first goal within 2:20 into the game! It was crazy! Don't ask me how I know that!!! In order to feel in accord with the spirit of this ground breaking game, my comp and I wore our Argentina jerseys under our proselyting clothes! It was so funny because you really couldn't see it especially once the sun started going down but if you looked close enough then you could see it!

Transfers were yesterday and amazingly not one change happened within my district! 'm happy because I really love all the guys I work with. This week we had zone training which is where the zone leaders teach us. they asked us to study a chapter in the George Albert Smith teachings book called "On the Lord's Side" or something like that. It was awesome. It talked about the line between following the Lord and following Satan. It said that that the line between the two is so fine that the slightest bad habits and poor choices would throw you onto the side of Satan. This line was also compared to someone who is valiant and someone who is honorable. The type of person who is valiant is that which is on the Lord's side. This type does all the Lord asks of them for all the right reasons. Then there is an honorable person. An honorable person is the type of person who is constantly bouncing back and forth over the line. An honorable person is a great person but lacks the consistency and pure desire like that of a valiant person. After studying these subjects I realized that being an honorable missionary is an achievement in itself, though it is not enough. Unless we are doing everything the Lord asks of us, we can never be on the Lord's side. Luckily we can repent and change our ways but that doesn't mean we have an excuse to be so-so in our dedication. I know that as we strive to be a valiant servant of the Lord, then we will find true happiness and peace to our soul.

I love you all so much and thank you for your prayers! Remember that this work of mine is not missionary work; it is the work of salvation. It is work for all to participate in. I invite you to strengthen your testimonies in the atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ, for in that knowledge will grow our desire to share this gospel with others.

Les escribo con un corazon lleno de amor y gratitud,
Les quiero mucho,
Elder McKee
