Hey mom and dad! I’m super sorry I can’t write much this week!
I got super distracted doing some stuff on this new mission website and now I’m
out of time!!!
Just to let you know, I am super happy! I was blessed this
week to have the honor of baptizing a girl in my district named Luciana! I
taught her 2 times while accompanying the sisters here in my district and in
the 2nd lesson she asked me if I would be the person to baptize her. I truly do
not know why she chose me to do it but I was honored and with excitement I
accepted the invite. This Saturday she was baptized at 4:00 it was something
very special because she is the second of a family of 11 to be baptized. Luciana
is only 14 and was waiting to receive permission from her parents so she could
be baptized! After her older sister was baptized without their parent’s permission,
they began to take interest in the church and gave Luciana the opportunity to
baptize and confirmed a member of the church!
We also had the opportunity this past Wednesday to attend
leadership council meetings; all of which were an amazing series of instruction,
helping me become a better example, and a better district leader! Not only was
I stoked to be there, but what I learned there was something very important. It
was nothing new or anything I hadn’t heard before, but this time when I heard the
many messages that were being presented, it was different; and that small
difference was the Spirit inside of me that made the statement that much
stronger!
President Bowler spoke and told us that one of the biggest
reasons we were called to be a leader in the mission is because we need to grow
and be better or stronger in something. He also told us that we were called to
be examples among the others. After the two reasons he gave us as to why we
were called, he asked each of us to write a small relationship between the two
and he was going to read 3 of the entries we turned in at the end. Once the end
of the meetings came around he read my entry saying, "The connection
between those two things is that none of us are perfect, every missionary has
flaws and needs to grow in some aspect of the mission calling but we are to be
examples by showing them we are working to better than our weaknesses."
After writing that I began to ponder what are my weaknesses? I came to know that
I have a list of them and I don’t need to go around telling you or any of the
missionaries I know what they are but I do need to show that I am struggling
and fighting to be better. Whether they know my highs and lows in fulfilling my
purpose or not they will recognize the effort I put forth to be better.
I would love to invite you all to do the same! I’m not asking
you all to go out and share your weaknesses with others but I am asking you to
focus on making those weaknesses your strengths. As you do this, I promise that
all of the people around you will notice a difference in the light and love you
each have inside of you! I’m super thankful that my Father in Heaven has
blessed me with weaknesses and I am even more thankful that He has opened my
eyes more, allowing me to recognize them.
I love you all more than I can explain and I am so
appreciative of the love and support I receive weekly from the emails you all
send me! Truly the emails give me strength and determination to become a better
me than you have ever known!
Always,
Elder Jonah McKee
